Most small retail and service establishments grossing less than $300,000 annually are not required to pay the minimum wage. The majority of supervisory and administrative employees who are paid a salary are not covered by the law. Employers are eligible to pay less than the minimum wage for the first 90 calendar days of employment. Iowa Occupational Safety and Health requires that all employers must furnish to employees employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards which cause or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. Employers should also comply with occupational safety and health standards.*
